Sudoku is not just a numbers game, it's an exercise in pure logic. Many get stuck at harder levels because they try to "guess". Mistake! Sudoku is solved by eliminating the impossible.
Here are three fundamental techniques to go from Easy to Hard level.
1. Scanning
The basic technique. Pick a number (e.g. 5) and see in which rows and columns it is already present. Often you will notice that in a 3x3 box there is only one cell free for that number. Always start like this!
2. Naked Pairs
If in a row (or column or box) two cells have only the same two possible candidates (e.g. 2 and 7), then you can eliminate 2 and 7 from all other cells in that row. It seems like magic, but it's logic!
3. Take Notes!
